About the artwork
This abstract work is an informal painting created using mixed media, incorporating textural and varied materials such as ash, rust, rock powder, and pigments, which are layered on top of one another and applied in a very watery consistency. This results in a highly tactile surface.
The painting is created using only ash, black soot pigment, rust, light gray slate powder, and white pigment. White dominates the composition but is constantly interrupted by shades of gray and rust. The black lies in the background and only shines through in certain places. The color scheme appears powerful and elemental. The movement and dynamism in the picture are created by the black areas broken up by white, extending upward. The title “New Beginning” was chosen because white contains all colors. This means it seems as though anything is now possible. Something new can and may emerge. Together with the rust tone, which symbolizes warmth, and the black, which represents grounding and depth, all signs point to a “new beginning.” This square abstract painting in black and white is the second painting in the “New Beginnings” series,
The painting is framed in a black wooden gap frame. It can be easily hung on the wall using two screws and wall anchors.
