Course “NEON! – Want to be LOUD?” Abstract painting with acrylics and pigments”

4-day course at the Kunstfabrik Wien

Thursday June 22th – Sunday, June 25th, 2023

Seminar content: Invitation to the color rush on large canvases! Especially in summer, it’s fun to use bright colors, because it’s simply an expression of pure joie de vivre! In the course we learn how to use neon color skillfully without immediately getting “eye cancer”. Sometimes it is only allowed to peep through in the background, sometimes it is put in the limelight loudly. Depending on what we want to allow and what we like. In any case, we want to create large-format generous abstract paintings that work in themselves.
I will show you how to set generous areas and apply acrylic paints & pigments in various techniques. We glaze, we use the palette knife, the scrubber and of course brushes. We work sometimes impasto, sometimes liquid or apply paint dry. We observe how the brilliance of acrylic paint changes when we enrich it with pigments.
We learn about the functions of lines and how we can use them skillfully to connect surfaces. Wax crayons, charcoal, glue, pigments, graphite pencils & brush extensions give us new impulses and are used according to our mood. In this way we take many small steps towards a new image and new ways of seeing, which lead us out of our comfortable zone.
In addition, there will be a lecture on composition rules, which we will supplement with small daily drawing exercises. This sharpens our view and helps us in our own process of finding a picture.
Basic knowledge of painting is a prerequisite for participation in this course.

Course “Green is the hope” – free painting with acrylic paint & pigments

4-day course at the AdbK Kolbermoor

07/17/2023 – 07/20/2023

Green is good for the soul! With green one always associates nature, and thus also go out, draw strength, have time for themselves, go for walks, enjoy the garden and much more. We now dedicate ourselves specifically to the color “green” in all its facets and learn how beautifully this color can be used in combination with other tones, even garish colors such as the entire neon spectrum. We experience how important it is to mix the colors correctly, even among themselves, so that color-intensive paintings are created – free of any kitsch. And all this on the big canvas.
In the course we learn how to skillfully transfer quick drawings on paper to the large canvas. The generous setting of surfaces and the application of acrylic paints & pigments in various techniques is also part of the program: we glaze, we use the spatula, the scrubber and of course brushes. We work sometimes impasto, sometimes liquid or apply paint dry. We observe how the brilliance of acrylic paint changes when we enrich it with pigments. Neon colors will tease out our resistance. We’ll learn about functions of lines, and how we can use them skillfully to connect areas. Wax crayons, charcoal, glue, pigments, graphite pencils & brush extensions will give us new impulses and will be used according to our mood. In this way, we take many small steps towards a new image and new ways of seeing, which lead us out of the cozy comfort zone – with a lot of green!
In addition, there is an introduction to composition rules, which we supplement with daily drawing exercises. This sharpens the view and helps us in our own image finding process.

Finally give space to your own creativity! – 1 x per week

Free painting in small groups – without guidelines

Having time for yourself and being able to immerse yourself in the painting process intuitively – who doesn’t want that?
Anyone who would like to pursue their own creativity in a small group in an undisturbed atelier atmosphere once a week has come to the right place (max. 4 participants per course). Topics are not given – they realize their own projects and work freely, regardless of whether they are abstract or objective. Here you have the chance to experiment with acrylic paint, pigments, wax crayons, pastels, charcoal, brushes, spatulas and sponges and learn a lot about image composition. If you have never worked with acrylic paint or pigments, I will be happy to provide you with assistance, explain possible approaches and give you tips on how to approach the white canvas. I would be happy to support you in finding your individual artistic path.

Joint picture review

At the beginning of each day of the course, we start with a joint picture review. This trains the eye and helps to sharpen the eye. Afterwards everyone works for himself. Again and again I will challenge you and ask you what ideas you have with the respective painting and where you want to go so that your artistic independence can develop and I give you tips on how to implement it.

Paints, brushes & canvases

Colors of the Boesner own brand and the Goya brands as well as some pigments, wax crayons, charcoal and pastels are made available. If you prefer to work with more highly pigmented colors or higher-priced brands, you are welcome to bring them with you. Colors, brush usage and pigments are included in the price. Please do not use oil paint.
You paint on canvases that you either bring yourself or purchase from me at the Boesner purchase price after prior agreement.
Just come and paint – I’ll organize the rest.
