About the artwork
The small work of art in the format 30x40x2cm is a collage of Chinese paper on canvas. I colored all the papers in advance with blue and black pigments and coffee. The title “Counterpart” alludes to the two different paper surfaces: One is deep blue, with a velvety feel. The blue color actually “bleeds” into cyan blue and appears cold and technical. The other surface impresses with the warm, earthy feel that the coffee and black pigments give the paper. Both surfaces together – so different in color and appearance – create a strong contrast, a real counterpart, but at the same time they need each other.
“Counterpart No. 1” is the first work in the Counterparts series.
This smaller work of art is framed in a matt black metal shadow gap frame.
