About the artwork
The artwork “Vielschichtig” (Multilayered) is a collage made of Chinese paper in landscape format, measuring 80x100x3cm, mounted on canvas. The background of the picture consists of thick layers of ash and pigment, which have been covered with paper. Nevertheless, the structure of the background is still clearly visible in the picture. On top of this are many layers of light-colored paper, some of which are colored with white pigments to create a varied, dynamic white on the image. This is further enhanced by thickly applied paraffin (wax), which creates yet another shade of white and, as a smooth whitish surface next to the rough paper elements, creates enormous tension. The glued-on pieces of paper, some of which appear rough, consist of many layers of fine Chinese paper that I have colored myself, forming a coherent, multi-layered composition.
This collage is framed in a white wooden shadow gap frame and can be hung on the wall immediately with two screws / dowels.
