About the artwork
This abstract work is an informal painting in mixed media technique, made with structuring and different materials, such as rockflour like marble powder and slate powder, but also ash, rust and pigments, which are applied in many layers, sometimes very watery, sometimes pasty with a brush or spatula. This creates a very tactile surface and material density overall. The title “Maintaining confidence” refers to the colorfulness and drama in the painting. The blue tones in combination with the grey slate, the warm rust that peeps through at the lower edge of the artwork and the bright white look very dramatic on the one hand, but then again calm, which is almost paradoxical.
The painting is framed in a white wooden frame.
