About the artwork
The work of art “catharsis” is a classic mixed technique made of ash, rock powder, China paper, charcoal and pigments on a wooden body. The wooden body was built especially for me. It is an informal work, which means that the material used and the unclassified forms are in the foreground and determine the pictorial impact. The title of the work refers to the used color, because the predominantly white and turquoise tones in connection with light brown tones remind me of water, the sea, a fresh breeze, air or even a waterfall. Of spray and water showers. All of this has a purifying meaning for me, as if one were to free oneself from ballast.
The painting is framed in a narrow black metal frame, which underlines the noble effect of the painting. I had the frame specially made for this work by a blacksmith near Munich.
The very heavy wooden body can be hung on the wall with two screws/dowels and then rests against the wall.
The art historian Dr. Ingrid Gardill has explained the work in mixed media in more detail in an article.
