About the artwork
The artwork “Retreat” is a classic mixed technique made from ash and ultramarine blue pigments on a gesso board. It is an informal work, which means that the material used and the unclassified forms are in the foreground and determine the pictorial impact. The title of the work refers to the calm blue surface, which sits powerfully in the center of the picture and is held by the black surface. The blue pigment appears almost neon blue. It is very richly applied and yet the ash peeps through. It is the same ultramarine blue that the artist Yves Klein used for his blue paintings.
The artwork can be easily hung on the wall with two screws / dowels and then rests against the wall. It is framed in a narrow black metal frame, which a blacksmith from near Munich made for me.
