About the artwork

This work is a very large mixed media on canvas, measuring 170x280x3cm. I have covered the base with ash, then several layers of color pigments, finally a layer of black soot and white pigments, which are diametrically opposed to each other as areas. Between these two, a layer of previously dyed Chinese papers in matt black and gray and light brown tones made from soluble coffee, as well as light-colored Chinese papers dyed with white pigments, lies quite centrally. The black and white holds the middle area together in a wide variety of gray, black, white and brown tones.
The title “A good relationship needs a lot of space – for both sides!” refers to the middle space with the large color spectrum of gray values and the two edges of the painting in black and white, which could also stand for a couple, for example a bride and a groom, who are usually dressed in white (wedding dress) and black (wedding suit). The grey area in the middle – colored in itself – stands for the space that every couple or relationship needs or must give itself in order to remain happy. At the same time, the gray values also express the fact that not everything should be taken as black and white as it is sometimes articulated or appears, because nothing is really black and white. It is important to pay attention to the gray values, in communication, in gestures, in interpersonal relationships. This leaves the chance for agreement, understanding and harmony between the partners.

This painting is framed in a narrow black metal frame that a blacksmith from the Munich area made especially for me and this work. The painting can be hung directly on the wall using two screws / plugs.
